Madder139 presents new paintings and sculpture by Guy Allott in his first solo exhibition in London for six years, following solo exhibitions at Kunstverein, Springhornof, Germany; Reception Gallery, Berlin and City Art Gallery, Leicester and Group shows at Arp Museum, Remagen, Germany; The Library of Babel, 176/Zabludowizc Collection, London and Chung King Projects, Los Angeles.
In Allott’s landscape paintings, the very distant past and the far-flung future merge. His scenes are replete with improbabilities and anachronisms: fiery mackerel skies, jolly-but-sad spacecrafts (evocative of 1960s toys rather than actual rockets), and discontinuous natural panoramas that clash with one another. For all their otherworldliness, however, the places Allott paints are to some extent real. He manages to plumb the depths of the history of landscape painting, both real and surreal and emerge onto the other side. The resultant imagery transfixes in its discordance, somehow hauntingly relevant.

We are a young gallery committed to finding and nurturing emerging talent with a particular emphasis on British artists although each year we endeavour to show the work of at least one international artist who has not previously had a solo show in the UK. We focus on a diverse programme of exhibitions with all forms of media.
