BIRTH - Vicky Hawkins

Vicky's forthcoming exhibition, entitled BIRTH at the 10 Gales Gallery, will showcase installations from "The Alpha Girls", "Mutant babies", "Twisted Fairies" and a new series of work on paper based on Leonardo Di Vinci's drawings of Foetuses. On this, her most recent collection, Vicky commented: "I've done death to death - now I'm on birth ,to death!"

Most recently, a growing fascination with the strange, baleful, eerie power that dolls hold over us has led Vicky to create "Alpha Girls" - a body of work that has inspired Vicky's art to evolve into the medium of short film. The dolls, 26 in total - each representing a letter of the alphabet where created by Vicky through a series of textile, soft sculptures laid dormant for years, before a move into film brought them to life.
